Treatments and Coatings for Prescription Glasses
Treatments and Coatings for Lenses of Prescription Glasses
Now-a-days, glasses are sold with the useful coatings on the lenses at no additional charges. Among these coatings, the ones most popular are the ultra-violet coating, anti-reflective or AR coating and anti-scratch coating. These coatings ensure that you have the best of eyewear experience by improving your eyesight and offering better vision.

Ultra-violet or UV coating, as the name suggests, offer protection to your eyes from the harmful ultra-violet rays of the sun. These lenses have a dark tint made of chemicals which absorb the UV rays. If the concentration of the UV rays is high, the tint will get darker than usual, while if the concentration is low, the tint will be lighter. As the development of science has proved that UV rays are more dangerous than previously thought of, with the potential of getting reflected on the softest of surfaces and going through even clouds, the necessity of a good quality UV coating has also increased.

Anti-reflective coating reduces the amount of reflecting within the lens. Generally when light reaches your lens, parts of it keep getting reflected with the lenses. Which means less amount of light reaches your eyes, providing a weak image and the reflected light creates a glare. Anti-reflective coating reduces the amount of the reflected light, thereby reducing the glare. This is the reason why this coating is also known as the “Anti Glare coating”. Apart from generally improving the vision, this coating is essentially helpful while driving at night. The coating reduces the glare coming from the headlights of other cars and street lamps, ensuring a comfortable and safer ride.

Finally, anti-scratch coating offers protection to the lenses and the coatings. No matter how much careful you are with your lenses, regular usage results in scratches in the lenses or the coating. A faulty coating is worse than the absence of a coating. Anti-scratch coating ensures that this does not take place. Plus, in case of kid’s eyewear, anti-scratch coating is an absolute requirement, as it is known that children are careless with their glasses, exposing the lenses and the coatings to the maximum danger. In case you are purchasing your pair of prescription glasses from the online stores, you will find that most of these stores offer you these lenses at absolutely no additional charges.
